Sometimes, you just need someone to talk to
Thinking about counselling? You don't need to be in crisis to reach out.
At Focused Consulting Group, we offer a warm, confidential space to talk things through — whatever's on your mind. Whether it's something big or something you can't quite put your finger on, our counsellors are here to listen and support you at your own pace.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you come in. Sometimes, having someone outside of your usual circle to talk to can help you make sense of what's going on, understand how you're feeling, and work out what might help.
We have counselling appointments available in Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu.
What can counselling help with?
People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons, including:
Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or like your mind won't slow down
Low mood, or just not feeling quite like yourself
Stress from work, study, or a big life change
Grief and loss
Adjusting to an injury or changes in your health
Relationship or family difficulties
Processing a difficult or traumatic experience
Challenges with confidence, self-esteem, or motivation
Feeling stuck or unsure about what comes next
Simply wanting a space to check in with yourself
You don't need to have a specific diagnosis or a particular problem to benefit from counselling. If something is affecting how you're feeling, thinking, working, sleeping, or getting through your day, it can be worth talking to someone.
What can you expect?
Counselling is different for everyone. Your first session is an opportunity to talk about what's been happening and what you'd like support with. Your counsellor will take the time to understand what's important to you and work with you to identify what might be helpful.
There is no expectation that you have to share everything straight away. Counselling is a collaborative process, and you can work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Depending on what you're looking for, counselling may involve developing strategies to manage stress or anxiety, working through difficult experiences, understanding patterns of thoughts and behaviours, building confidence, or simply having a safe and supportive place to talk.
A space that's about you
Life doesn't always come with a clear reason for why you're feeling the way you do. You might be managing several things at once, feeling overwhelmed by a particular situation, or simply know that something doesn't feel right.
Counselling provides time and space to step back, talk openly, and focus on what you need — without judgement.
